We did a really nice piece last issue, on Vietnam. Sheri went there and brought back a six-page story on the industry and Clay did as good as usual, using his impressive story-telling style.
I was totally astonished to see many facts about Vietnam.
- Vietnam is Asia's second-fastest-growing economy, with a GDP growth of 8.4% last year. (China acquired the first place with 9.9% while India fell behind Vietnam with only 7.6% - both Gialynn and I were dubious first at these figures.)
- FDI as a percent of GDP: China 3.3% Vietnam 3.8% (rank first! can u believe that?) India 0.8% (what a big cry!)
- GDP per capita: China $1,485 Vietnam $609 India $663
- US imports trade from Vietnam grows at steady fast rate ever since 2000.
- Vietnam has reduced its poverty rate from 51% to 8% in only 15 years.
I'll also recommend the incredibly shots by Benjamin. He's def a master of catching the motions. And Clay's depiction on Vietnamese middle class is so vivid, showing you a real-life scene, which must be nothing like what you thought of this south asian country.
I'm always amazed by what pandora brings to me, songs exactly of the type I like. And I first knew Anggun from it, the unbelievably talented Indonesian girl with a somewhat african voice. Yeah, that's the best part of it, explore the things that you like for you. Isn't having a personal station dream of many people? At least me. Choose the songs I like, then bury myself totally into it for a whole afternoon, with some book and sunshine.
Talked to mom for a long time just now. She's busy, as usual, and the only thing I would think of saying is take care, like what she would always say to me. Forever remember what she once said: you're like the kite flying far far away, but no matter how far it is, I still feel the string in my hand, which is already enough to me. Warm, huh? I never doubt she's a good poet.=)
Love you mom, and miss u much.
Candles in the St. Paul's church, begging Virgin Maria's bless.
I saw the dancing fire, in their hearts, and hearts of people who lit them.
I'll def go and check out the Lincoln Center, it seems so gorgeous, with two giant painting of Chagal's. Maybe Madam of Butterfly, or just Magic Flute. I'll see.
A whole week of busi-busy days finally came to an end!! We have a new editor in chief now, Andy Sewer, who really has some good humor and always with a diet coke at hand. Can't be more excited to get his comment on my stories to be "fairly hard-hitting"! Suddenly feeling all the harshness got compensated//-.=
So reluctant to go out, I just turned down the plan to Atlantic City and wanna enjoy a little RELAXIN' moment myself.
Clean the room (what a BIG mess..) up, take a shower, turn down the lights, lit the candle... Here you go, a room of lightly sweet aroma and soft bosa-nova..
Life ain't be easy esp when you don't take it easy.
Woke up and found myself finally get back from the Big-big Halloween fantasy..
Every wonderful just came to my first Halloween here in New York!! The KEWL party in IHouse, the FABULOUS parade in village. Things gettin' just too fantastic to be real, it's exactly like in the dream - being surrounded by all the fancy cuties! Marlio, Micky Mouse, Harry Potter, Blue, Vampire, Snow White, Superman, Peter Pan, Spiderman, Shrek...etc and etc. Can't help to love this more!! We paraded from Spring Street to the 22nd, along with all the heat and enthusiasm embracing you from the thousands of people laughing, shoutinig, dancing and singing together! You saw Little Red climbing up church windows and scary ghosts cheering beers with sexy police women.. Yeah Mix-Up is the tag of this city of Big Apple, you can tell, and Halloween parade is def a strongest present!
It's the first time I felt myself so deeply in LV with NY, being touched by the warmth of winter. Dunno whether/where I'd have the next Halloween, memory of this one could be forever fresh and shining, though!
